The program Transmission by Porto/Post/Doc, which promises to show (and play) the best of contemporary music through films, concerts and performances, has been announced. Prince, Ryuichi Sakamoto, M.I.A or The Velvet Underground are some of the artists in focus between November 24 and December 2. Concerning national bands, the films "Ainda Tenho Um Sonho Ou Dois - A História Dos Pop Dell’Arte" and "PAUS Madeira" will have its theatrical premiere and the old classic "Chico Fininho" will be back.
The national debut of "Sign O 'The Times", written and performed by musician Prince, marks the awards ceremony of the festival on December 2 at Teatro Municipal do Porto - Rivoli. The film documents the live performance of the American composer's album in the late 1980s combining concert recordings in Netherlands and Belgium and at Paisley Park studios. A documentary about Ryuichi Sakamoto, one of the greatest geniuses of contemporary music, portrays the unprecedented live performance in New York of his album, "Async". In a different dimension, the documentary "MATANGI / MAYA / M.I.A." portrays the hip-hop star M.I.A. in its most varied levels: from music to activism. It's a movie-happening.
In Portuguese, Porto/Post/Doc shows documentaries that look at some of the bands that mark the present of the national musical panorama: Ainda Tenho Um Sonho Ou Dois - A História Dos Pop Dell’Arte, by Nuno Duarte and Nuno Galopim, PAUS Madeira, by Ernesto Bacalhau, and Escola do Rock, by Amadeu Pena da Silva, co-produced by the festival. We return to the 80's with the nostalgia of Chico Fininho, the mythical film by Sério Fernandes.
Film programming in the Transmission section also includes the latest film by Galician director Lois Patiño, "O Espírito de Pucho Boedo", and Nicolas Jack Davies's "Rudeboy: The Story Of Trojan Records". The short film "The Velvet Underground Played At My High School" by Tony Jannelli and Robert Pietri will be screened along with a showcase by Little Friend presenting his new album.
The festival will present three more musical moments: a concert by Joana Gama and Luís Fernandes accompanied by projection of immersive images of the galaxy, to be held at the Planetarium of Porto - Centro de Ciência Viva; a concert by Valentina Magaletti and João Pais Filipe, in partnership with Lovers & Lollypops and the Municipal Theater of Porto, as well as a performance by the purge.xxx collective, within the release of the debut album by Chris Petit - director in focus at the festival - and Mordant Music.
Porto/Post/Doc takes place between November 24 and December 2 at the Porto Municipal Theater - Rivoli, Cinema Passos Manuel, Cinema Trindade, Planetário do Porto - Centro Ciência Viva, Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and Escola das Artes - UCP.
The 2018 edition of Porto/Post/Doc has the support of Câmara Municipal do Porto, ICA - Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual – Ministério da Cultura, CVRVV - Vinho Verde, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Acción Cultural Española - AC/E, Cinemateca Portuguesa - Museu do Cinema and ArtWorks.
