Chris Petit and Matías Piñeiro on focus at Porto/Post/Doc

by Porto/Post/Doc / 08 10 2018

Chris Petit and Matías Piñeiro will be on focus during the next edition of Porto/Post/Doc, taking place between November 24 and December 2, in several spaces of Porto.

Director and writer, Chris Petit made a brilliant debut with his first feature film, "Radio On," 1979. A road movie set against the backdrop of the British landscape and a soundtrack featuring songs by David Bowie, Kraftwerk, among others. Marginal figures such as Peter Whitehead, audio-visual experimentation (working for television) and the intersection between images and urban drift, which he has been working with Iain Sinclair, are some general features of the films made over the last 40 years. In Porto/Post/Doc it will be possible to see much of Chris Petit's work in a program that includes short films and feature films, some of them exhibited for the first time in Portugal. The director will be in Porto to present his films, namely "Negative Space", an experimental film that reflects on how we see and remember the images, whose projection will be followed by a conversation with Laura Mulvey, one of the most important film researchers of the present time.

Another highlight announced is the focus on the work of Matías Piñeiro, who will also be present at the festival. At only 36 years of age, the Argentine director, who has dedicated himself mainly to free adaptations of Shakespeare's texts for cinema, is one of the young promises of Latin American cinema. In Porto / Post / Doc will be presented five of his films: "A Silent Woman", "Viola", "In The Museum", "La Princesa de Francia" (nominated for best film at Locarno Festival) and "Hermia & Helena ". Matías Piñeiro will also present a carte blanche at the festival: "Il Monte delle Formiche", by the director Riccardo Palladino, a film presented in a national debut.

Thus, Chris Petit and Matías Piñeiro join the announced program, which includes a full retrospective of the work of António Reis and Margarida Cordeiro and a workshop led by Laura Mulvey.

Porto/Post/Doc takes place between November 24 and December 2 at the Porto Municipal Theater - Rivoli, Cinema Passos Manuel, Cinema Trindade, Planetário do Porto - Centro Ciência Viva, Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto and Escola das Artes - UCP.

The 2018 edition of Porto/Post/Doc has the support of Câmara Municipal do Porto, ICA - Instituto do Cinema e Audiovisual – Ministério da Cultura, CVRVV - Vinho Verde, Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian, Acción Cultural Española - AC/E, Cinemateca Portuguesa - Museu do Cinema and ArtWorks.
