“Variations on How to Farm a City”, by Mónica Martins Nunes, has been selected for two festivals in April 2026, continuing the circulation of a film developed within the framework of Working Class Heroes, Porto/Post/Doc’s programme dedicated to supporting film creation rooted in the city of Porto.
In Porto, the film will screen in National Competition A of Porto Femme, on 21 April at 5:15pm, at Cinema Batalha. In Berlin, it has been selected for the medium-length competition of Achtung Berlin Filmfestival, with screenings on 19 April at 7:00pm, at ACUD Kino, and 20 April at 10:30pm, at Babylon.
Directed by Mónica Martins Nunes and produced by Primeira Idade, “Variations on How to Farm a City” premiered at Porto/Post/Doc after being developed through Working Class Heroes.
Set among vacant lots, urban slopes and improvised vegetable gardens, the film observes the repeated gestures of cultivating the land within the city, revealing a quiet, persistent and discreet form of resistance. Following this choreography of labour, care and continuity, the film also offers a singular portrait of Porto and its margins.
These two new selections mark the continuation of the film’s journey following its presentation at Porto/Post/Doc.
