“San Simón”, co-produced by Bando à Parte, joins the San Sebastián International Film Festival following its showcase at the Porto/Post/Doc Industry Screenings
The feature film “San Simón”, directed by Miguel Ángel Delgado and a Portuguese–Spanish co-production involving the Portuguese company Bando à Parte, was selected for the 73rd edition of the San Sebastián International Film Festival (19–27 September 2025). The film will be presented in the section Made in Spain — “50 years of freedom”.
Selection in San Sebastián follows the project’s path through the Porto/Post/Doc Industry Screenings, where “San Simón” was shown in an industry-only screening during the 2024 edition. This festival platform fosters meetings between film teams in post-production and programmers, sales agents, and distributors.
“San Simón” revisits a dark chapter in the history of the eponymous island, which was turned into a Francoist concentration camp from October 1936 onward. The narrative follows survivors’ memories against a contrasting backdrop of natural beauty, invoking historical memory and reflection on freedom and political violence.
The film is produced by San Simón la película AIE, Miramemira SL, Morelli Producciones, and Bando à Parte (Portugal). The cast includes, among others, Nuno Preto.
For Porto/Post/Doc, the selection of “San Simón” in San Sebastián confirms the role of the Industry Screenings as a platform for visibility and acceleration of Iberian projects in post-production, demonstrating the tangible impact of this initiative on the international circulation of emerging works.
