PORTO/POST/DOC JOINS EUROPEAN NETWORK FOR THE “HUMAN RIGHTS IN MOTION” AWARD
Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival is proud to announce its inclusion in the European network of festivals selected to present the Human Rights in Motion Award, established by the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).
Created to highlight the strong connection between documentary filmmaking and human rights, this award honours the director of the film that best embodies the struggle for freedom, democracy, and fundamental rights. “With this initiative, we aim to raise awareness of the Council of Europe’s work and support filmmakers who bring our principles and values to the big screen,” stated Theodoros Roussopoulos, President of the Assembly. “Documentaries have the power to capture the impact of human rights violations with immediacy, awakening empathy and understanding.”
The €5,000 prize will be awarded annually at four leading European documentary film festivals — FIPADOC (France), Thessaloniki Documentary Festival (Greece), Porto/Post/Doc (Portugal), and a fourth to be announced — and will be presented during each festival’s closing ceremony.
At Porto/Post/Doc, the festival team will nominate a selection of films from its official and competitive programmes, from which an independent jury will choose the winner. This partnership reaffirms the festival’s ongoing commitment to politically engaged and socially relevant cinema rooted in universal human rights.
Further details about the award can be found on the official website of the Council of Europe: Human Rights in Motion – PACE.
