Filmes do Homem - International Documentary Festival of Melgaço takes place from August 1 to 6 in Melgaço. Organized by the Melgaço City Council and the AO NORTE Association, it aims to promote and disseminate ethnographic and social cinema, reflect through films about identity, memory and border, and contribute to an audiovisual archive of the region. The main focus of the festival is based on the programming of films that express the author's point of view on social, individual and cultural issues related to identity, memory and frontiers, in a competitive showcase of documentary candidates for the Jean Loup Passek Award.

Included in this selection are two films screened by Porto/Post/Doc. Tarrafal, by Pedro Neves, which made its debut in Porto/Post/Doc 2016, and was included in the Competition before beginning a tour of several international documentary festivals. It is a film that seeks to unravel the memories of the residents of Bairro S. João de Deus, one of Porto's mythical social districts.

Terceiro Andar, by Luciana Fina, that was screened at Há Filmes na Baixa! anniversary cycle in June 2017, also integrates the programming of Filmes do Homem. It is documentary about language, love and the building of happiness that takes us to a multicultural Lisbon, through the dialogue between a mother and a daughter.

Tarrafal is exhibited on August 2 at 6:10 p.m., and Terceiro Andar on August 3 at 6:30 p.m. Both sessions will be at the Casa de Cultura de Melgaço.
