School Trip Mini: a programme for kids

by Porto/Post/Doc / 27 10 2016

The next edition of Porto/Post/Doc - International Film Festival presents for the first time, a programme dedicated to kids: the Mini. The educational project of the festival, School Trip, has already shown to have a key role in the articulation of Porto/Post/Doc with schools, showing films and promoting masterclasses and workshops. This year, School Trip opens a new front, the Mini, which will dedicate a programme designed for kids, with sessions and workshops.

Cinema is a contemporary art. Therefore, it is important to consolidate the visual literacy of the younger, since they are daily flooded by images. Mini is intended as a gateway to the festival, promoting educational initiatives, guided by a team of professionals. In 2016, Mini is composed of film sessions and workshops. The guest director of this first Mini edition is Leonor Teles, winner of the Golden Bear for Best Short Film at the last Berlinale, with Balada de um Batráquio, which will be screened with Rhoma Acans, her first documentary. Leonor Teles will talk with the audience after the screening of her films. Also planned are three workshops on film and documentary.

The educational project School Trip, beyond the usual session with films by Soares dos Reis Artistic School, will also screen, for the first time, a film school competition, with representatives from Portuguese universities and polytechnics, but also from foreign schools. There will be about a dozen films in competition. Moreover, the festival will promote the initiative "My Day", with several kids from Porto schools documenting their day. In the closing ceremony, the festival will screen the result of those days.

The educational project School Trip is also the home to the Teenage programming, a new section created last year, and which will screen films that focus on that magical moment of growth, with the unstable identity that allows new wings to the imagination. A programme will be screened, with documentaries played by young people in a genre that take the pop culture as a central identity but allowing other deviant social groups. These sessions are a radar of the future of humanity. As a complement to this idea, Porto/Post/Doc takes as central to its concern for younger audiences. Therefore, there will also be a Teenage jury of several students of Porto schools.

As usual, the festival will return to focus on a competition of thirteen films, several parallel sections, two retrospectives and the Forum of the Real. Porto/Post/Doc will take place from November 26 to December 4 in Rivoli, Passos Manuel and Maus Hábitos. As in previous years, the festival will open to an eclectic crowd, composed of film lovers, students and young people, taking advantage of the exciting life of downtown Porto.
