We created the Working Class Heroes project, which has Filmaporto – Film Commission as a partner, with the aim of supporting audiovisual production in Porto and about Porto, inspired by the stories of those who, over time, have been building the city. This creative grant of €20,000 is implemented through an invitation to filmmakers who have a line of work that corresponds with the festival’s philosophy. Through this support, we hope to create a creative space that listens to all those who have lived and worked in the city. Hence, it is an incentive to listen to the anti-heroes who have made Porto a city where the multiple faces of the working class are reflected. This project aims, on the one hand, to make possible the production of new films and, on the other, to create through these works a greater proximity between the voices of filmmakers and the local territory and our community. In each edition, three filmmakers are invited to pitch before an international jury, and the selected project will be produced during a two year artistic residency in Porto.

INVITED FILMMAKERS

Tomás Baltazar (PT)
He has a degree in Sound and Image from the Católica University of Porto and a postgraduate in Film and Television Editing from the Septima Ars. Since 2005, he has edited several films by Portuguese and international directors. He directed the short films, Barefoot, Quarrymen and Life Railways.. Since 2014, he has been a film programmer at Doclisboa. Guest Assistant Professor at Universidade da Beira Interior.

Luísa Homem (PT)
Director, editor, and co-founder of Terratreme Films. She directed Suzanne Daveau, ANIM, Um Dia No Museu and co-directed As Cidades e As Trocas, com Pedro Pinho, São Tomé, com Tiago Hespanha e Atlas De Um Cinema Amador, com Inês Sapeta Dias. She also edited several films by other directors.

Carla Andrade (ES)
She is a Galician filmmaker, visual artist and photographer with a degree in Audiovisual Communication and a master's degree in "Artist's Film & Moving Image" at Goldsmiths University. Her work has been shown at museums such as Guggenheim (Bilbao), MARCO, Tabacalera, Caixaforum, La Casa Encendida, Le 104 or Lux (London); and at festivals such as IFF Rotterdam, Zinebi, Ficunam, Curtas, Seoul IMF, (S8), PlayDoc, Documenta Madrid, L’Alternativa, Curtocircuito or PhotoEspaña.
