BPI and Fundação "la Caixa" support Porto/Post/Doc in celebrating cinema of the real

BPI and Fundação "la Caixa" have joined forces this year with Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival, which will take place in Porto from 20 to 29 November. As patrons of the event, both institutions reaffirm their commitment to culture and cinema in a year that has posed particular challenges to artists, producers, and cultural promoters.

Now in its seventh edition, the festival presents an expanded programme featuring over 60 films that bridge contemporary cinema with the memory of the classics. The selection addresses urgent contemporary issues, while promoting artistic diversity, intercultural dialogue, and support for new generations of filmmakers.

With a hybrid format — in-person at Rivoli, Passos Manuel, and the Porto Planetarium, and online via a curated video-on-demand platform — Porto/Post/Doc also reaffirms its dedication to cinema venues as vital spaces for cultural development and key markers of Porto’s identity.

Dario Oliveira, the festival’s artistic director, highlights the thematic programme The City After, comprising a series and a curated film selection that trace a cinematic journey through the 20th century. “The city as refuge, the dream of comfort and happiness, affection, the progressive abandonment of urban space, and the emergence of new suburban urbanities” are among the ideas explored in this cycle.

Fundação "la Caixa" began its activities in Portugal in 2018, following BPI’s integration into CaixaBank. In 2019, the foundation allocated €20 million to social, scientific, educational, and cultural initiatives, with the goal of reaching up to €50 million annually as its programmes become fully implemented.
