The American independent cinema has a few heroes. And Lionel Rogosin is one of them, an autodidact who made some of the most intense documentaries about the reality of the marginalized of the 50 to 60's.

Starting point of a collaboration between the Port/Post/Doc and the heirs of Lionel Rogosin (1924-2000), post-World War II movie figure, and part of the experimental generation like Shirley Clarke, Jonas Mekas and Stan Brakhage, restored director's works will be displayed. His first feature film "On the Bowery" (1956) is one of that movies. Awarded in Venice and nominated for Oscar for Best Documentary, portrays the lives of the deprived neighborhood "The Bowery", on the outskirts of Manhattan.

Present in Porto/Post/Doc will be Rogosin's son, Michael Rogosin, himself a documentary filmmaker, who will bring us "the making of" of "On the Bowery" (2009), and the documentary "The Perfect Team". It will be also displayed "Come Back, Africa" ​​(1959) about life during apartheid, result of a trip that Lionel Rogosin made to South Africa.
