Contemporary cinema show marks the fifth anniversary of Há Filmes na Baixa!. Between May 3 and 31, Cinema Passos Manuel will host eleven sessions of cinema to celebrate the program of regular exhibitions of Porto/Post/Doc.
Five years ago, the cinema was hidden in the multiplex of the commercial centers of Porto. Today, the cinema is back downtown: in Manuel Passos, Cinema Trindade, and, in future, Cinema Batalha. This is the main reason to mark the fifth anniversary of the regular Porto/Post/Doc sessions. And what better way to celebrate than with cinema?
Diaries of artists, stories of movieclubs, political portraits and much, much music. The show Porto/Post/Doc: 5 Years of Há Filmes na Baixa! makes itself the mirror of the programming developed by the association throughout its activity. Eleven sessions and a window to the contemporary world through the unique gaze of directors from the most diverse latitudes: from Germany to Chile, from Iran to Brazil.
From the untimely cinema within a Bosnia under fire in "Drvo", by André Gil Mata (which will feature two sessions presented by the director), the historical novel of the Battle of La Lys in the First World War with "Soldado Milhões" by Gonçalo Galvão Teles and Jorge Paixão Costa, to the Portuguese musical phenomena portrayed in "Não Consegues Criar o Mundo Duas Vezes", by Catarina David and Francisco Noronha, "Nyo Vweta Nafta" and "Barulho, Eclipse" by Ico Costa, and "Hip to da Hop" by António Freitas and Fábio Silva. National production is one of the main bets of Porto/Post/Doc.
But the cinema continues to give us music with Sandrine Bonnaire's "Faithfull," which will be screened together with Ebru Avci's "Why It's Difficult to Make Films in Kurdistan" in a session integrated in partnership program 6.doc with Doclisboa.
From the outside Sebastián Pose and Philipp Hartmann arrive to present their films: "Queulat Diaries", a documentary about the artist Rafael Yaluff, exhibited in partnership with the residences No Entulho at Otiima Artworks, and "66 Kinos", a visit to sixty six German cinemas, in a session supported by the Goethe-Institut Portugal and DAAD. Hartmann returns to HFNB!, after presenting "Time Goes By Like a Roaring Lion" in 2013.
Implicit in political and gender issues, "Persépolis" by Marjane Satrapi and Vincent Paronnaud (for the youngest), and "As Boas Maneiras" by Juliana Rojas and Marco Dutra, complete the program of the show. Rui Miguel Abreu (Rimas e Batidas) and Nitronious (Monster Jinx) will be in charge of the closing party of Porto/Post/Doc: 5 years of Há Filmes na Baixa!, happening on May 30, also in Manuel Passos.
