Jan Ijäs makes essayistic documentaries, almost all of them shot on analogue film, in which a place, object or phenomenon may take centre stage rather than a conventional protagonist. In this masterclass, he discusses the origins of his ideas, the development of the script, and how shooting on film shapes, transforms and sharpens his cinematic thinking on location. The session will include excerpts from his short films.
