Nam June Paik was the most far-sighted artist of the 20th century. His work on the media, new media and the internet (he coined the term "electronic superhighway" when he titled his monumental installation with more than 300 television screens) presaged our age of distraction, with the multiplication of "channels'', image algorithms and the return to the "cinema of attractions''. Born in South Korea, June Paik lived with John Cage and was part of the Fluxus movement, immigrating to the USA where he became a pioneer of video art. Amanda Kim pays homage to this "self-taught engineer" who revolutionised the art world and anticipated the digital turn.
Nam June Paik: Moon is the Oldest TV premiered at the Sundance Film Festival.
