Soon after making The Story of Film: An Odyssey (a 15‑hour epic on the history of world cinema), Irish director and film critic Mark Cousins made the lesser‑known A Story of Children and Film. Guided by the director’s characteristic voice and his captivating gaze, this essay launches us on an enchanting journey through the history of cinema with children (not necessarily for children). A journey through 53 films, from 25 different countries, where we celebrate, besides cinema, the children’s way of seeing the world, with all its destructive freedom and disconcerting surrealism.
The film will be followed by a conversation around the issues associated to pedagogies, cinema and its implementation in classrooms, with Elsa Mendes (coordinator of the National Cinema Plan), Ícaro (Vítor Pires, director, artist and educator) and Carlos Natálio (teacher, researcher, programmer and collaborator of educational projects for cinema). A conversa decorrerá em português.
The conversation will be in Portuguese.
