EN geral

Transposing the Greek myth of Electra to the Hungarian landscape, Jancsó finds echoes of Soviet totalitarianism in this story of despotism and revenge (there are references, through the Greek dictator Aegisthus, to the then leader of the Hungarian Communist Party, János Kádár). In Elektra, My Love, we find once more, in a crystalline state, the historical concerns surrounding the idea of violent revolt that characterise the director's cinema. Filmed in 12 hypnotic sequence shots, everything is highly choreographed in sequences of pure visual delight. And suddenly, out of pain and hate, emerges a ray of hope.
Elektra, My Love premiered at Cannes Film Festival in 1974. A new digital restoration of the film will be screened, in 4K.
