"This world is not the world," an orphaned child from the Congo tells us, wearing sunglasses and striking a ‘‘gangster’’ pose. Hip-hop mythology runs through the life of Patient and his friends, through the streets and beaches of Goma. Chop My Money gives us a portrait of street kids in Africa that isn’t miserable, but quite the opposite. Between slow-motion cameras and a very appropriate video-clip aesthetic, the staged dimension of this gloomy fantasy is revealed.
