A diamond of Portuguese cinema, Trás-os-Montes earned António Reis and Margarida Cordeiro honors from some of the greatest critics and directors ever, such as Serge Daney or Jean Rouch. In a fragmented narrative, Reis and Cordeiro show the customs of this region through a kaleidoscopic look - sometimes by the miners, sometimes by the weavers, sometimes in the liturgies - always operating under the intent of displacement: from the dominant language to Mirandese, from the present to the archaic, crossing from one land to another. "To guess, and to arouse the will" suggested Bresson. The cinema is contaminated by painting and literature and the duo inaugurates a singular poetic production that will last in subsequent films: Ana and Rosa de Areia. (Alexandra João Martins)
