Ashore marks the debut of the Portuguese director Leonor Teles in the long format. After the shorts Rhoma Acans and Balada de Um Batráquio, the filmmaker goes back to her origins: a fishing community next to the Tagus river, in this free land that is Vila Franca de Xira, where she grew. Albertino Lobo and his daily trade occupy the central place of the narrative, but also of the screen, with the American shots on the river making the figure of this fisherman-cowboy stand out. Then it's the family, and the parties, in a simple portrait of life. (Alexandra João Martins)
