The 2018 edition of Porto/Post/Doc took place from November 24 to December 2, reaffirming the festival as a privileged meeting point for filmmakers, diverse audiences, and film industry professionals. Once again, the festival was a shared celebration — a convergence of experiences, where the joy of witnessing moving images unfolded across some of the most beautiful cinemas in the city of Porto: the Porto of Bolhão, of tripas, of Aniki-Bóbó, of Aleixo. The Porto that has always told stories — and that, through this festival, once again found a place to show them.
With a programme that spanned the boundaries between Porto and the world (International Competition), between cinema and music (Transmission), between the real and the fictional, Porto/Post/Doc established itself in 2018 as a mature festival, with a handful of stories to tell — real stories, from across the globe, in a world and a cinema that find their place in Porto.
One of the highlights of this edition was the special programme Fictions of the Real, which explored the complex relationship between fiction and reality in contemporary audiovisual culture. Drawing on the legacy of classical neo-realism and aware of the proliferation of mediated reality through television and digital networks, the programme featured a selection of films and sessions of the Forum of the Real, seeking to understand how today’s cinema integrates the real into its fictional narratives.
The festival took place across several emblematic venues in the city, including Teatro Municipal do Porto – Rivoli, Cinema Passos Manuel, Cinema Trindade, Planetário do Porto, the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, and the School of Arts – UCP.
