Considered one of the founders of the ethnographic genre, Jean Rouch has also to be remembered as a visionary filmmaker, for the way he originally explored the frontier between fiction and reality. Using non-professional actors, Rouch filmed the day-to-day life to create an imagined but anchored narrative in reality: seeing a Rouch film is like discovering a new world. In the iconic Moi, Un Noir, we follow a group of immigrants in the Ivory Coast, between moments of work and leisure, in a faithful portrait of their dreams and anxieties, in the search of illuminating marginal histories. This film will be screened with Les Maitres Fous, by Jean Rouch.
