In order to be buried among his loved ones, a moribund sheik orders an expedition across the Atlas. But death doesn’t wait and, fearing the mountain, the young members of the caravan have to decide quickly if they shall fulfill that wish, even at the risk of their lives. That’s how the conflict between Ahmed Hammoud, leader of the caravan, and Shakib Ben Omar, young driver more faithful than faith, arises. Throughout the film, Laxe questions men's faith as something good that brings us power, a set of skills and tools constructed during our lifetime or as something absolutely irrational, a threat to our own existence. The action reaches its peak towards the end of the film, once the director compresses the story pointing out, with parsimony and mystery, a possible answer to that dilemma. Mimosas is an odyssey in which the praise to Mauro Herce's cinematography – director of Dead Slow Ahead, included in Cinefiesta- is unquestionable and, although the provoking avant-garde approach, results in something much less intimidating to the viewer than it would be expectable. Oliver Laxe returns to Porto/Post/Doc after the exhibition, in 2014, of Todos Vós Sodes Capitáns. (Sérgio Gomes)
