Hommage to Chantal Akerman 2015

01 Dec 2015 · Passos Manuel · 22H15

It was her close relationship with her mother Natalia (a Polish immigrant and Auschwitz survivor) that Chantal Akerman successively portrayed in small home videos. In "No Home Movie" they are ordered in tribute to the one that was no longer with her: the late mother. The intention of immortalization comes through film: we observe the slow rhythms of a sheltered routine, inside an apartment in Brussels, and we feel them so close, as if the director is giving us her own skin. Inside the privilege of a private look, the viewer witnesses Chantal’s feelings and the film title becomes palpable – beyond the familiar walls, Brussels is no longer a place to return, not now when those who made it feel like home have already left.
