On the Bowery, a problematic neighborhood in New York, the fringe of society was trapped in its own misery, without salvation or hope. Rogosin looks at the suspended lives of these men, using local residents instead of professional actors. This film, which endures in time, makes us (the viewers) visit a place we cannot leave unscathed. It is made of small moments that draw a portrait of a fading humanity, like a series of photographs enlarged by the haunting quality of those lost faces. Ray's story, one of those men looking for some salvation, is just like any other forgotten story, and illustrates how difficult is the passage of time on this place without hope. João Araújo
