PORTUGUESE PREMIERE
Somewhere in the confines of contemporary China, the mountains are being destroyed for the production of steel. The scale is huge, hardly seems human, and that scale contrasts with the patient work of thousands of workers who, given the hard work, display various signs of terror: a face covered with powder, a lung doomed to collapse. For Zhao Liang, there is something wrong: the human no longer seems to be what he should be, but a remnant of an ancient and destroyed civilization. "Behemoth" appears to be a science fiction film, a kind of dystopia with its zombies and deserted cities. It is precisely as a culmination of the film that Liang shows us the confirmation: in the end of this cycle of "growth and development" there are buildings all over and all of them are empty. Henceforth, this is a film, at the same time, poetic and terrifying. (Daniel Ribas)
