Porto/Post/Doc

27 Nov - 3 Dec 2017

The 2017 edition of Porto/Post/Doc: Film & Media Festival took place from November 27 to December 3, establishing itself as a meeting point for filmmakers, audiences, and professionals engaged with cinema of the real. Featuring an eclectic programme, including an International Competition and several thematic sections, the festival occupied four venues across the city: Teatro Municipal do Porto – Rivoli, Cinema Passos Manuel, the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Porto, and Maus Hábitos.

Memory and the archive were central themes of the edition. The festival explored cinema as a tool for preserving and reinterpreting the past, presenting films that used archival footage or proposed new readings of history. Highlights included retrospectives dedicated to Jean Rouch, Miroslav Janek, and Peter Mettler, as well as a programme on post-memory developed in collaboration with the Centre for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra.

Alongside the public screenings, the festival expanded its educational project School Trip and launched the new Highlights programme, featuring national premieres of significant contemporary works.
