PORTUGUESE PREMIERE

Suddenly, we enter the life of a group of marines who just came back from Afghanistan and Iraq. They are stationed, along with their families, in the mundane peace of an American military base right in the middle of the Mojave Desert. We are at Twentynine Palms, a military city with almost ten thousand inhabitants who are there just because they are having special preparation training or they are part of an elite team on its way to the next battle. The geographic and human framing of their lives, waiting between missions, only reinforces, subtly, the absurd of an existence dedicated to war. The subject as it is told, without interviews or commentaries, happens in a timely movement of contention and grand cinematographic beauty. The protagonists are like fish outside water, this time without a war to battle, but with the strength of their own vocation, always on alert mode, even when they are home and in their ordinary lives.
